My emotions have been all over the place from feeling completely numb to feeling everything at once.
I've been down, depressed, disoriented, and I've doubted myself more than I'd like to admit. I felt deprived of so many things that were rightfully mine.
The Moment I Hit Rock Bottom
The journey began with a single, desperate decision. I had reached a point where I was completely fed up with the ill-treatment, the nepotism, and the double standards at my job. Every day felt like a betrayal of my own dignity. So, I walked away.
I quit without a backup plan, without a single job application ready. It was terrifying. I knew I had to prioritize my mental health, even if it meant sacrificing my financial stability.
I left everything my steady income, my social circle at work, even the faint sense of security that a paycheck brings.
It was me against the world, and for a long time, it felt like I was losing.
From 2019 April the 10th until recently, I was just surviving. Barely earning enough to keep my soul ,breath and skin together. Forget about earning anyone’s respect; I was focused on just making it through another day.
Books: My Only Constant
They say love is free, but the experience of it can be costly.
I lost so much during that time my peace, my romantic partner, and even my close relationship with my parents. It felt like everything was slipping away.
But through it all, there was one constant that never left me: books.
While the world outside seemed to be falling apart, the worlds within the pages of books became my refuge. They weren’t just stories; they were companions. They offered an escape when my reality was too painful to bear. They provided new perspectives when my own felt too narrow. In the pages of a novel or a piece of non-fiction, I found a sense of belonging and understanding that no one else could give me.
They were the silent friends who never judged, always welcomed me, and reminded me that there was a bigger world out there, filled with different possibilities.
The Slow, Painful Climb Back
Rebuilding my life wasn't a sudden, magical turnaround.
It was a slow, painful climb. I had to learn how to survive on very little.
There were days filled with misery and depression, days when getting out of bed felt like the biggest challenge of all. But with the help of my books and my own inner drive, I started taking small steps.
A small job here, a creative project there. It was a process of rediscovering my worth, not in a salary, but in my own resilience.
Through this experience, I learned exactly who my real friends are. To everyone who stood by me, who helped me through this difficult time, I am forever grateful.
You know how miserable and depressed I have been, and your support meant the world. I now see how losing everything made me appreciate the small things: a kind word, a supportive message, a simple act of friendship.
A New Reality
Now, I find myself in a new place. People who had forgotten me are now reintroducing themselves, as if I'm the one who forgot them. It's a strange feeling, but it's a testament to how far I've come.
This isn't just about surviving anymore; it’s about thriving.
This new chapter feels like a fresh start, and I'm approaching it with caution and tact.
I’ve built a new foundation for my life, one that is rooted in self-respect, inner strength, and the understanding that I am capable of overcoming anything.
This is a start of a new reality, one I will build with purpose and hope.
Have you ever had to walk away from everything to save yourself?
